FAQ’s
What does this fit?
This will fit any 2013+ FRS, BRZ, GT86 or GR86. Please note that 2022+ Subaru BRZ (or anybody who has retrofitted the Gen 2 BRZ knuckles onto their Gen 1 cars) must order the appropriate kit for that vehicle. The bearing itself is the same, the only difference is the bearing retainer, and the mounting hardware. The bearing retainer must contact the wall of the bearing race to ensure the bearing stays in place properly.
Will this fit my car if it has an aftermarket angle kit?
If you have an aftermarket angle kit, this product will unfortunately not work, due to the design of the replaceable bearing. The bearing retainer must be fitted to keep the bearing in its correct place, but this is designed only for the original steel knuckles, and the 2022+ BRZ aluminum knuckles when selected. However, if you have modified your original steel knuckles to “cut knuckles” for drifting use, these will still work flawlessly.
What bearings does this use?
The DTEC hubs are shipped with SKF bearing part number FW98. This comes from 2007-2008 Honda Fit, and 2010-2014 Honda Insight. These use the perfect size double-row ball bearing to fit within the constraints of the OEM front knuckle, as well as having the exact same ABS tone ring count within the magnetic seal to keep the original ABS system working as designed.
How do I replace the bearings if they wear out?
Currently the best-known way to replace the bearing is to remove the hub assembly from the knuckle, and use a hydraulic press to push the old bearing out and push the new bearing in place. We will be making a how-to video on this soon. However, there may also be a bearing removal tool that would do this on-chassis. I will update this as better/easier/faster ways are known.
Can I purchase this without the ARP wheel studs?
Currently we only sell these with the included ARP extended wheel studs for simplicity sake. These are pre-installed for you and use the original thread pitch of M12X1.25. The hole size for the stud knurl is the same as OEM, so if you need to replace with your original studs, you can still do that. It’s important to note you will most likely need to use open-ended lug nuts due to the stud length.
What brakes can I use?
Brake options are easy with the DTEC hubs. See below for examples:
Stock 2 piston calipers with 293mm front rotors: You cannot use the original brake rotors due to the size of the rotor hat being to small, and of course it being only drilled for 5x100 bolt pattern. Not everybody wants to spend big money on a BBK yet, so we have created an off-the-shelf solution for this also. By using our Brake Caliper Spacing kit, you can use the front brake rotors from a 2013-2023 Honda Accord with the sport package (293mm rotor). These are readily available at most parts stores. The center of the rotor is larger than the standard 86 rotor, so to center the rotor properly, there are two rotor retaining screws which are used to center it and prevent vibrations.
Will this work with my Big Brake Kit?
As long as your big brake kit has a rotor hat with holes drilled for 5x114.3, then yes, no issue!
Does this affect track width?
No, these do not affect track width, it retains OEM fitment specs.
